Streamlined Energy and Carbon Reporting (SECR)
By formally reporting your organisation’s carbon emissions, you’ll get a clear and detailed picture of where you’re at and where you need to be. Depending on the size of your business, there’ll likely be a legal requirement for reporting, too. The UK government’s Streamlined Energy and Carbon Reporting (SECR) policy provides a framework for you to report the data. This course will help you understand and follow the framework so you can create useful and insightful reports.
Learning outcomes:
- Recognise the basics of greenhouse gas reporting and the three scopes, so you can effectively gather GHG emissions data
- Identify what SECR is to determine if it’s mandatory or voluntary for your business
- Identify what information you need to disclose in your SECR and how to prepare the data, so you can complete a reporting template

This course is designed to be school-specific content, but some businesses will also have to report emissions data, so you’ll find it useful too. It’ll help you understand SECR and work out if following the framework is mandatory. You’ll also be able to gather data on greenhouse gas emissions, select the right information for disclosure, and prepare the data for your report. Having this data in place will ultimately help you reduce your carbon footprint and become more energy efficient.
This course is school-specific content but would be useful for chief financial officers, accounting officers, Sustainability leads and trustees.
